Line Marking – What to use and where to use it.

29th June 2021by galinar84News

When completing a line marking project, it is essential to know the pros and cons of each type of paint and make sure you are using the material best suited for your requirements.

There’s a pretty broad range of products in the line marking world – it can be somewhat confusing; however, in this new story, we aim to educate you on what product to use and where to use it.

Let’s keep things simple first of all; we have hot applied thermoplastic paint; this sturdy material is molten plastic that is then poured into a hand mould or shoe (when using a pram) and manipulated by our thermoplastic crew operatives into whatever is needed — for example, a parent and child logo or a directional arrow. With the proper preparation, thermoplastic can be applied virtually on any surface – it’s also the most common method of line marking used in the UK, predominantly use on a tarmac or bitumen surface for best results.

Next, we have traffic paint; this is a versatile material with many benefits on surfaces like concrete. There are multiple types of traffic paint, the most common being epoxy paint and water-based acrylic paint. They are traditional, inexpensive and easily applied with powered equipment, a roller or even a brush. A less common traffic paint is MMA (Methyl Methacrylate); this is a more expensive material; however, once it’s down, it’s down – saving money for customers in the long run. Traffic paints are generally used in car parks, warehouses, airport runways and in many more locations for robust and durable line marking, internally or externally.

Other lesser-used but still effective materials we work with are preform thermoplastics; these are ready-made stencil style sheets that only require heat to form adhesion. In our experience, these are best used in instances for click and collect bays, speed roundels or anywhere that requires intricately detailed designs.

Now that you know the general differences between our most commonly used materials, visit our website or give us a call today, and one of our experienced sales team will be able to help.

Thanking our NHS with Top Notch Line Markings

28th May 2020by galinar84News

Continuing with the theme of showing support for the NHS and all key workers during these difficult times, we have carried out essential works for Grimsby Council outside the NHS Grimsby hospital.

During our visit to NHS Grimsby, we carried out over 30 metres of 100mm double yellow lining, clearly marking no parking areas around the hospital grounds. To show our appreciation and that of Grimsby Council, we also carried out lettering spelling “Thank you NHS”.

It’s only a small gesture of appreciation, but every person who drives over this small signage will see and hopefully feel the same way. We are all very thankful for the hard work of all key workers while the rest of us are contained in lockdown.

Parking restrictions in the UK have been in use since the 1920s, with the primary goal of preventing vehicles parking on the roadside.

Double yellow lines are the most common parking restriction used – they do not allow vehicles to wait at the side of the road at any time.

However, loading or unloading from the vehicle is permitted, and dropping off or picking passengers is also permitted.

Single yellow lines have different rules. Near a single yellow line, there will be an upright sign with information about when vehicles are allowed to park – this could exclude certain times of the day or weekdays for example.

If you like what you hear and require any of our line marking services, please get in touch. We operate nationally and more recently internationally, all the while delivering outstanding line markings without compromising on quality. So, no matter the size, location or deadline, we’ve got you covered.

You can contact us via the contact page here or get in touch via phone or email.

Riggotts get the Eurotunnel up to speed

29th April 2019by galinar84News

Requiring minimum downtime, and aware of Riggotts’ high standard of workmanship, McCrory Limited called for the return of Riggotts to complete works at the Channel Tunnel Folkstone site.

The team carried out an array of thermoplastic work including over 2800 metres of lining, 48 letters and numbers, give way markings, 19 arrows and 130 metres squared of solid crossing pads.

Since opening in May 1994, the Eurotunnel has provided direct service to France in as little as 35 minutes from Folkestone to Pas-de-Calais.

The heavily trafficked area needed to be up and running again in as little time as possible to prevent delays and allow people to continue their travels. The Riggotts team tailored an efficient plan where the team worked around the clock at less-busy times to ensure there were minimum disruptions to the service.

Clear line markings allow the users of the roll-on roll-off service to navigate the ports with ease, improving the efficiency, safety and capacity of the link.

To ensure the longevity of the new markings the site was prepared with Tack Coat Primer before the application – ensuring the marking adhered correctly to the smooth concrete.

A spokesperson for the McCrory Ltd group commented on the works completed by the Riggotts team:

“I would like to acknowledge and convey to you that we are very impressed with the hard work and effort put in by your staff who attended the Eurotunnel site last week.

We were very pleased with their understanding of, the quality of and their positive attitude towards the work.

We look forward to seeing them again soon on the next project.”

Feedback is always important to us as we strive to fine-tune our services and provide our customers with the best possible service we can. Visit our Contact Page to get in touch and begin detailing your project’s plan.

Creating contrast for Travis Perkins (Benchmarx)

25th March 2019by galinar84News

Long-term client Travis Perkins’ line markings required a refresh at their site in Bridgewater in order to maintain their outstanding health and safety systems.

The Riggotts team surveyed the site and determined which existing line markings were to be renewed as well as what alterations would be required to improve safety on the site.

As the markings had to be highly visible, the Riggotts team opted for high-contrast markings – laying a black background to the site before the contrasting white lines on top.

The entire site resulted in over 1300m of line markings comprising pedestrian crossings, directional arrows and lettering in the yard area to create the safest workplace possible for Travis Perkins operatives and public visitors.

The one stop shop for Amazon Doncaster

30th September 2018by galinar84News

When Buckingham Group were tasked with line marking at Amazon’s Doncaster site they knew just who could deliver on time. They returned to Riggotts, of course.
Prior to line application, we carried out surface preparation to ensure even application of line markings that would last. A durable MMA resin concrete grade paint was then used to complete 1700m of lining, 120m² of solid filled areas, seven speed roundels and two arrows.
The results are another prime example of our line marking knowledge and expertise, and the reason clients such as Buckingham Group don’t need to shop around.

Safeguarding Thermoplastic line markings for the NHS.

13th September 2018by galinar84News

Returning clients, Derek Lewis Ltd, instructed Riggotts to complete lining at their Royal Hallamshire Hospital site. Over 1100 meters of Thermoplastic line marking was undertaken, this included: Give Way markings, directional arrows, lettering and general line markings across the site. Experience gained from working on previous NHS contracts gave us the necessary project management skills which allowed a smooth and on-time delivery – something that’s not always guaranteed when working in a hectic, large-scale hospital environment.

In gear at British Car Auctions

30th November 2017by galinar84News

When it comes to line marking, Riggotts has many miles on the clock. So when British Car Auctions needed lining, lettering, arrows and logos, we were the first choice for returning contractor, The Assured Group.

As one of the UK’s first car auctioneers, with 700,000 vehicles passing through their 25 sites each year, BCA are well aware of how important good appearance and high standards are. They were pleased to see our team deliver 900m of perfect thermoplastic lining at their site.

We employ all our own team and never use subcontractors, so it’s always nice to hear positive feedback. So we’ll leave the last word to Andy Harrison, Valet/Image Manager, who told us: ‘The guys were stars today and did a great job.’

Fast turnaround for Transpennine Express

30th November 2017by galinar84News

Brough Railway Station has been serving passengers since 1804. Although we haven’t been around quite that long, we’ve many years’ experience in line marking. Having previously lined railway platforms around the UK, we were the first choice for contractor Mitie.

Disruption can be costly, so we lined the two platforms swiftly, with no delays. Our team worked through the night to complete 1100m of durable line markings to help keep rail customers safe. With our experienced team sticking strictly to the timetable, the station was back on track in no time.

Just the ticket for Transpennine Express

26th October 2017by galinar84News

Grimsby Town Railway Station has been serving passengers since 1848. Although our history doesn’t stretch back quite that far, contractor Mitie once again chose us for line marking.

As we never use sub-contractors, they knew they could rely on our experienced, expert team to keep the job on track. The team travel the breadth of the UK, applying line marking, block colour, lettering and more to a wide range of businesses, from car parks and airports to retailers and roads.

This time, they applied 550m of white lining to all three of the station’s platforms. They delivered a hard-wearing one pack epoxy – its durability and expert application will keep customers safe for many more years to come.

In the driving seat with TESLA

18th August 2017by galinar84News

Tesla is jostling for pole position in the electric car market. Their first electric sports car, the Roadster, arrived in 2008 and their Model S was the world’s best-selling plug-in electric car in both 2015 and 2016. They’re on track for great success with their Model 3, having already taken half a million pre-orders for this affordable vehicle they hope will revolutionise the market.

As a leader in their industry, it’s perhaps to be expected that they’d choose the UK’s leading line marking company for their Dartford dealership. In our 20 years of lining experience, we’ve worked with BMW, Nissan and Renault. So the work for Tesla, through our returning clients BSPS Ltd, was right up our street.

To help with traffic flow around the dealership we carried out over 200m of the lining. That included give way markings, disabled bays and two-speed roundels. All our work was completed with one pack epoxy, leaving Tesla with long-lasting results to drive sales into the future.

Happy to help at Hersham

18th August 2017by galinar84News

The Hersham Centre keeps the community in Elmbridge active. Residents can enjoy services as varied as arts and crafts classes to aromatherapy and reflexology, iPad training and organised trips.

They weren’t looking for classes in line marking, although with 20 years’ experience, we’d be the ones to ask! We did, however, apply over 100m of thermoplastic lining to the site, enabling users to move about easily. As well as standard parking bays, disabled parking bays and parent and child parking bays, we also lined zebra crossings, lettering and no less than 22 arrows.

So whatever activity residents want to enjoy next, they won’t have any trouble finding their way.

Making our mark at LIDL

18th August 2017by galinar84News

Budget supermarket Lidl know all about great value. So when it came to car park markings at their Netherton store, they didn’t need to shop around. Riggotts was the first choice for contractor Fernmac. As we’ve worked with them before, they knew they could rely on our team for quality and efficiency.

This time, we carried out over 500m of lining in the car park. This included markings to make five disabled bays and three parent and child clear to customers. All the work was completed quickly using a fast-drying one pack epoxy. This provides a durable finish that will sustain the traffic flow associated with a busy car park.

In our 20 years of experience, we’ve worked right across the UK with every major supermarket brand. So we’re pleased to be ticking Lidl, one of the UK’s fastest-growing supermarkets, off our list too.

Back and better than ever

2nd August 2017by galinar84News

We’re proud to be part of the team that got the Asda Luton store back into action following a major fire in March.

The 44,000 sq ft store on Wigmore Lane had a £7.6m revamp, with new facilities added. Riggotts ensured all the new line markings are up to scratch too. So that customers and staff can enjoy their store easily and safely.

It’s been a real team effort to get things back on track so quickly. But the store was officially reopened after just four months by the Mayor of Luton and Luton Foodbank (who Asda donated rescued stock too).

Amanda Burnham, Asda Luton’s community champion, said: “The colleagues have really missed everything about the store – seeing each other and all the regular customers. It’s an emotional day. I’ve worked at the store for 20 years so it’s fantastic to be back.”

We’d like to wish manager David White and his wonderful colleagues at Asda Luton all the best now they’re back in a store that’s better than ever.

The Eurotunnel Gets a Riggotts Refresh!

28th February 2017by galinar84News

The famous Channel Tunnel, which provides a direct link for cars and trains between the UK and mainland Europe, is the newest recipient of a line marking refresh by Riggotts! The tunnel, also known as the Eurotunnel or the ‘ Chunnel ’, is the world’s longest underwater tunnel and has been open since May 1994. The tunnel links Folkestone to Coquelle, Pas-de-Calais France in as little as 35 minutes. The Eurotunnel is an important piece of infrastructure, as it directly connects the UK to mainland Europe, and offers a route for cars, Eurostar passenger trains and freight services to travel from England to France and beyond. The Eurotunnel is a popular choice for those looking to indulge in a bit of retail therapy at Cité Europe or visit the magical world of Disney in Paris.

Riggotts were subcontracted by first-time clients McCrory Limited to line the control lanes and Southeast car park at Eurotunnel Folkestone, which is operated by Groupe Eurotunnel SE. The Riggotts crew lined over 1000m of white and yellow thermoplastic markings, including zebra crossing pads, 11 arrows, give way markings, and lettering.

IMG_8859Riggotts is proud to have been selected for such an esteemed job at a British landmark. The tunnel is an extremely important piece of infrastructure, and without it, there would be no direct link for trains or cars between the UK and mainland Europe. With Riggotts’ depth of experience completing line marking jobs around the country, we were the best equipped to finish the job as carefully and efficiently as possible. We are pleased to have played a part in maintaining the tunnel’s safety, and look forward to working with McCrory Limited on future projects.
