It’s time to change the narrative. 2024 saw the average global temperature reach the warmest on record, our sea levels are rising, and climate change is leading to an increase in humanitarian emergencies due to extreme weather events. By making changes to reduce greenhouse gas emissions we can support the growth of a healthier planet for a better future.
At Riggotts we are proud to raise awareness of the use of renewable energy and sustainable living. Today and every day we are looking at ways to reduce our carbon footprint – ways in which we have done this include:
✅Changing to paperless systems – One tree is cut down every 2.5 seconds to make paper. With our efforts to reduce our paper consumption, we can continue to have a positive impact on the future of our planet.
✅Using solar panels – By 2030, it is estimated that 20% of the UK’s energy will be generated through solar. At Riggotts we are embracing this change and preserving our planet for generations to come.
✅Reducing waste – Whilst our industry depends on material, it is vital that we do not cause unnecessary wastage. By ensuring that we do not throw away products or materials that are fit to use, and investing in more sustainable materials for our projects, we reduce the impact on the environment by minimising the need for landfill, and therefore the release of methane, a key contributor to our rapidly warming climate.
✅Opting for minimal transportation – Whilst our crews work from the Highlands of Scotland to the waters of Cornwall, we are dedicated to reducing emissions through transport. Our planning team work meticulously to minimise distance covered by linking projects to be carried out in the same trip. By utilising our crews efficiently, we can be confident that we can lower the emissions brought on by road vehicles.
✅Embracing online meetings – Whilst this seems insignificant, in 2023, 6.2 million domestic business trips were taken. We ensure, where we can, we utilise online meetings, reducing the need for travel. These small steps will limit the amount of C02 in the atmosphere, creating a greener, cleaner tomorrow.
✅The growing use of electric vehicles within our fleet – The sales of new electric vehicles have been climbing year on year, and in 2024 electric cars accounted for 19.6% of UK new car registrations. In 2024 the UK sold 381,970 electric vehicles, its best year for EV sales so far! By the end of March 2025 there were over 1,480,000 fully electric vehicles in the UK – about 4.35% of all the cars in the UK.
The UK government have confirmed that by 2030 there will be a ban on the new sales of petrol and diesel cars, with new hybrid sales also being banned by 2035. Transport is one of the biggest contributors to climate change, with cars being the most substantial contributor to C02 emissions – in 2023 they accounted for 52% of all domestic vehicle emissions.
With the rise of electric vehicles comes the expansion of electric vehicle infrastructure – and that number is only set to increase in the coming years. Since 2024 the amount of rapid and ultra-rapid public charging devices have risen by almost 45%, with Greater London accounting for the largest number of these chargers – 22,211 as of January 2025.
Our specialist line marking crews have years of experience installing line marking for electric vehicle bays across the UK. We’ve carried out bespoke installations for various clients and have a variety of designs to choose from. As the world moves towards a more sustainable way of living, our knowledgeable team are on hand to provide their expertise on your expansion of electric vehicle bays.
On the 55th anniversary of Earth Day we’re focusing on shifting the story by making small impactful changes to help restore our planet. By making the shift towards cleaner energy we can drive forward together and protect our planet today to preserve our tomorrow.
