Road Markings: The Unsung Hero Of The Roadways

28th January 2016by galinar84News

Travelling on roadways is such a normal occurrence that many of us fail to realise how dangerous it can be until tragedy strikes. Every year, millions of UK drivers take to the roads on a daily basis – that’s 31.4 million cars last year alone. Worryingly, a study in 2012 found that over half of the UK’s roads weren’t meeting acceptable safety standards. Research carried out by RSMA in 2014 found that road markings on 52% of motorways, 42% of dual carriageways and 48% of single carriageways were so worn, they needed replacing. And these road markings aren’t just for aesthetics – EuroRAP says highway authorities could save 20 fatal or serious injury accidents over three years by simply re-lining junctions. The evidence stands: in 2011, seven of the ten most dangerous roads underwent road marking treatments, reducing fatal and serious accidents by 74%. Experts have claimed that white lines ‘cut more accidents than cameras’, with motoring organisation The AA even claiming that road markings are ‘one of the best safety tools we have’. Best of all, road markings are a cost-effective investment – for as little as a tin of paint, eight times as many lives can be saved. Riggotts is the UK’s premier road marking company, with over 42 teams operating throughout the country. With 21 years of experience in the road marking industry, Riggotts is the best choice for your road marking needs, for everything from traditional to completely bespoke lines.road markings

Historic Site Lined for Jaguar Land Rover

Former Historic Site to Become Jaguar Land Rover Distribution Centre
Leading UK car giant Jaguar Land Rover is bringing a new lease on life to the historic coal-mining site Baddesley Colliery. In response to continued growth, the luxury vehicle manufacturer is relocating its National Distribution Centre from Gaydon to the 50,000-meter site in Baxterley, where the council approved its planning application last June. Currently, Jaguar Land Rover is one of the largest employers in the Midlands, and hope to create numerous jobs with this new 24-hour car storage and distribution depot. badd1
(www.ourwarwickshire.org.uk) The site of the new facility is steeped in history. Baddesley Colliery opened in 1850 and has employed thousands of workers. In 1882, it was the site of one of the worst disasters in the history of West Midlands mining, when a fire and explosion claimed the lives of 32 workers. The mine closed over 100 years later in 1989, after nearly 140 years in operation. Today, a memorial to honour the men lost in the accident stands next to the Rose Inn in Baxterley.

Riggotts are proud to have been selected to partake in a project of such significance. Nick Riggott, Joint Managing Director of Riggott & Co. Ltd., adds, “Having been sub-contracted by our trusted client, The Buckingham Group, this project was a great chance for us to showcase our high level of commitment to the job. Due to the scale of the project, our operatives have been working tirelessly to deliver results that are, as always, second to none.” badd3 We’ve also been busy lining numbered bays, crosswalks and traffic markers.
