Precision Line Marking at Luton Airport
Riggott & Co Ltd have successfully handed over the line marking scheme as part of Luton Airport’s multi-storey car park reconstruction.
Luton Airport is the UK’s fifth busiest airport, with anywhere from 150 to 300 flights taking off each day. In 2024, Luton Airport served an impressive 16.7 million passengers! It is home to some of the UK’s largest carriers including EasyJet and Jet2, and serves over 130 destinations across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.
In 2019, terminal 2 car park at Luton Airport opened following a multi-million-pound modernisation programme – sadly, only three years later it suffered significant damage following a vehicle fire that tore through the multi-storey facility. Since this unfortunate incident, the car park has been dismantled and reconstructed to meet updated safety legislation and with best practices in mind. This rebuild will also form part of a larger expansion project for the airport, including the construction of a new terminal and related facilities, with the aim to double the current airport capacity by 2043.

Why Riggotts?
The team at Riggott & Co Ltd have years of experience carrying out line marking for multi-storey car parks across the country and have even undertaken previous car park line marking schemes at Luton Airport – making us the perfect choice for this regeneration scheme. Airport car parks are high traffic transport hubs that are in use around the clock, with that in mind our team would have to work in close collaboration with the onsite team to plan, manage and execute this scheme with as little disruption as possible to the airport.
The Project
We were tasked by our client to undertake the comprehensive line marking scheme, ensuring that the facility met operational and safety standards throughout. We jumped onboard, focusing on delivering a high-quality durable system to maximise parking capacity, support traffic flow and enhance the user experience. Our dedicated team provided their expertise by implementing a well-organized car park layout, allowing the new build facility to efficiently accommodate 1900 vehicles and safely guide users through the use of new pedestrian routes and traffic management markings.
Starting in June 2025, our crew undertook the phased line marking project, working closely with our client to deliver the scheme to the precise requirements of the airport. Our expert car park liners diligently marked out and installed precision markings to the upper levels of the resurfaced car park using a combination of sprayable epoxy and hand rolled MMA (methyl methacrylate).
Our experts laid in excess of 32,000m of lining for parking bays, walkways and areas of hatching,141no arrows, 107no pedestrian logos, 90no plane logos, 990no letters and numbers, 100no solid-coloured accessible bays and 245m2 of pedestrian crossing panels.

The Result
In order to meet safety regulations, the new car park layout features clear and concise markings including safe pedestrian walkways and wayfinding markings for on foot users and concise traffic management markings to improve vehicular flow and reduce confusion and accidents. The circulation routes have been strategically marked to effectively guide vehicles throughout the levels and minimise congestion, ensuring everyone makes it to their flight on time!
The high-performance materials used on this project are suitable for a range of surface types and weather conditions, and our robust application will reduce the need for future maintenance, ensuring the airport can support its millions of visitors each year with minimal disruption to its operations.

And Finally…
Our line marking scheme handed over in mid-September 2025, with the car park reopening to the public shortly after. The successful completion of the line marking on this project represents a key milestone in the regeneration of this car park – beyond the benefits of an improved traffic flow and maximisation of space for vehicular storage, the car park also has also implemented much needed critical safety systems including a fire suppression system designed to protect the car park and its users in the event of an emergency.
This project demanded technical expertise and careful coordination by all on the ground, ensuring everything from the demolition stage, through to the rebuild from the ground up to the final handover ran smoothly. Well done to everyone involved in this scheme for giving this car park a second chance, it is a testament to the power of collaboration and unwavering dedication.
