Five Reasons You Need Line Markings

20th July 2021by galinar84News

There are many reasons why a customer may come to Riggotts and decide they need line markings, surface painting or road marking. We’ve narrowed their reasonings down to five reasons why you, a customer, may need line markings.

So number one, Health and safety improvements – there’re various cases where line marking has improved health and safety in the workplace, the most common of which being it acts as the first barrier in defence against near-misses and accidents. For example, a forklift driver operating in a busy warehouse stops to look right/left because the line markings tell him to.

Number two, improving appearances. There’s nothing worse than having a newly renovated site without having top-notch line markings to match, whether it be an underground car park, internal warehouse lining or road marking. Riggotts always produce expertly delivers line marking.

Number three, some line markings are a legal requirement. There are some instances where worn or incorrectly delivered line marking must be corrected or redone by HSE law. If not, the consequences could be rather severe. For example, if the line markings are wrong or are illegible on an airport runway, how can the pilots be expected to follow them? The consequences of an incident of that scale would be very severe indeed.

Number four, improving efficiency – there’s nothing worse than parking in a car park that has no line marking, people parking their cars all over the place, reducing the car parks capacity monumentally. However, line marking improve efficiency by showing people where to park in the predetermined parking plan designed for the maximum capacity.

Number five, guidance. If there were no line markings on the roads, you could only imagine the carnage. The addition of line markings creates order and a safe place to drive vehicles guiding road users away from danger, direction and alerting drivers to potential hazards.

Now you’ve read the top five reasons why line marking is essential. Get in touch today.

Line Marking – What to use and where to use it.

29th June 2021by galinar84News

When completing a line marking project, it is essential to know the pros and cons of each type of paint and make sure you are using the material best suited for your requirements.

There’s a pretty broad range of products in the line marking world – it can be somewhat confusing; however, in this new story, we aim to educate you on what product to use and where to use it.

Let’s keep things simple first of all; we have hot applied thermoplastic paint; this sturdy material is molten plastic that is then poured into a hand mould or shoe (when using a pram) and manipulated by our thermoplastic crew operatives into whatever is needed — for example, a parent and child logo or a directional arrow. With the proper preparation, thermoplastic can be applied virtually on any surface – it’s also the most common method of line marking used in the UK, predominantly use on a tarmac or bitumen surface for best results.

Next, we have traffic paint; this is a versatile material with many benefits on surfaces like concrete. There are multiple types of traffic paint, the most common being epoxy paint and water-based acrylic paint. They are traditional, inexpensive and easily applied with powered equipment, a roller or even a brush. A less common traffic paint is MMA (Methyl Methacrylate); this is a more expensive material; however, once it’s down, it’s down – saving money for customers in the long run. Traffic paints are generally used in car parks, warehouses, airport runways and in many more locations for robust and durable line marking, internally or externally.

Other lesser-used but still effective materials we work with are preform thermoplastics; these are ready-made stencil style sheets that only require heat to form adhesion. In our experience, these are best used in instances for click and collect bays, speed roundels or anywhere that requires intricately detailed designs.

Now that you know the general differences between our most commonly used materials, visit our website or give us a call today, and one of our experienced sales team will be able to help.

New Road Markings and Infrastructure Improvements to the A47

28th June 2021by galinar84News

Now that the country has almost fully reopened after an arduous lockdown, we now see the start of a Great British summer. However, as going on holiday abroad isn’t looking too feasible and temperatures reaching record highs in the UK, the general public are heading to England’s coasts by the masses to reconnect with that long lost holiday feeling.

With this in mind, Riggotts has been incredibly busy carrying out new road markings on the A47 section near Norwich – a holidaymaker’s highway to the east coast. However, substantial infrastructure improvements are underway to resurface and reline the dual carriageway, making it a much easier road to travel.

So far, the Riggotts road marking crews have been hard at work, lining miles of road markings using their new state-of-the-art Multi Mark Machine and two other specialised road marking vehicles.

Using their versatile Multi Mark Machine, Riggotts can apply spray extruded or profiled thermoplastic road markings to suit the client’s needs. This big mean road marking machine requires just one crew to have it fully operational – reducing the amount of time spent on site and costs.

Dynamic Line Marking for Builders Merchant Branch in Norfolk

23rd June 2021by galinar84News

In our line of work, different surfaces present different problems and solutions. For example, asphalt can presents difficulties with paint and concrete with thermoplastic. However, that’s why we use methods to ensure complete adhesion no matter the surface or material.

A national builders merchant asked us to complete works at one of their branches in Norfolk, but as the surface was a light concrete, they wanted the line markings to stand out more – making them more visible, ergo, safer for their customers.

What was the problem? The line markings wouldn’t stand out as much on that particular surface type. What was the solution? We introduced “Dynamic Line Marking.” We created a solid black background for the line markings making them not just more visible but hard not to notice.

During this visit carrying out our new dynamic line markings, the Riggotts Paint Crew Carried out over 600m of 100mm lining, 140m of yellow hatching, over 400m of 200mm lining, Ten arrows, 13 pedestrian logos, 115 meters squared of solid areas and 22 meters squared of removal work. All of which was carried out in our single pack epoxy paint.

Delivering Internal Warehouse Line Markings for Atherstone Distribution Centre

15th March 2021by galinar84News

Applying warehouse line markings on floors has been a persistent problem for many years. When paints are applied on an unprepared surface, the warehouse line markings don’t have the same adhesion properties. As a result, the line makings can fail within only a matter of weeks.

Our surface preparation method using our specialised captive shot blasters and enhanced sealing after paint application is proven to produce warehouse line markings that last, not just days or weeks, but for years to come.

Within a warehouse environment, every part of the building must be looked at meticulously to comply with health and safety standards. Your warehouse markings are critical to your overall health and safety – outlining the structure and traffic flow throughout the area. These markings are also a powerful method of outlining hazards and communicating information to customers and employees.

As well as outlining potential hazards and conveying information to the operatives and customers using the facility, they are a proven method of improving warehouse efficiency.

Recently, the Riggotts team carried out internal warehouse line marking, captive shot blasting, and improved longevity sealing in Atherstone, Warwickshire.

The total amount of works carried out for the client was as follows; 4264 metres of warehouse line marking, 123 metres squared of solid area, 418 300mm letters and numbers, 14 pedestrian logos, 344 metres squared of sealer. Our team used the captive shot blaster to prepare all the above works before applying paint to promote adhesion and sealed after to increase longevity.

Providing Surface Coatings to London Client

25th January 2021by galinar84News

How can surface coatings be advantageous to your workplace? Well, that’s something we can answer with ease.

Many of our clients opt for surface coatings for many reasons; from protecting a surface to providing antislip properties, highlighting potential hazardous areas, or making a long-lasting impression from looks alone.

Before we start working on a client’s project, we consider all aspects of the project needs. This includes the surface type and which kind of paint would be most cost-effective and provide the best results.

The latest example of this was for a London based client, needing a surface on their premises recoating in black.

Firstly, the Riggotts paint crew worked on preparing the surface in question with a state-of-the-art captive shot blaster to clean the surface and prepare it for optimum adhesion, increasing the paint’s longevity and durability.

After the crew adequately prepared the surface, they got to work coating the surface, restoring the area to its full potential.

In total, the crew delivered 74m2 of captive shot blasting and 74m2 of solid black paint.

New Road Markings for Solihull Roundabout

30th November 2020by galinar84News

At the best of times, roundabouts can be a little tricky to navigate. Size, traffic conditions and the quality of the road markings can all contribute towards the difficulty of a roundabouts use – if the road markings are worn and are unclear, we all know it makes things much harder navigate – increasing the chances of an accident.

In a recent report by the police, just last year (2019) alone, there were 27,820 road users killed or seriously injured on roundabouts in the UK.

While all the above accidents and injuries can’t be all blamed on poor road markings, we can speculate that a significant majority started in not being able to navigate the roundabout correctly due to the quality of the road markings.

To combat a growing potential hazard in Solihull, the Riggotts team confronted the problem head-on; with their experienced crews and superior materials. In total, the Riggotts crew completed a total of; four 4m single head arrows, four 4m double head arrows, eight metres squared of solid area, 142m 100mm line marking and 26m 150mm line marking.

All in all, the Riggotts thermoplastic team carried out the works professionally, on time and to budget. Another happy client and just another example of improved road markings they have fulfilled.

Red Zone Line Marking for Nottingham NHS

26th October 2020by galinar84News

Red zone line marking is a proven method of ensuring that roads in said zones are free from stopped vehicles, improving the flow of traffic, increasing efficiency and lowering traffic build-up.

There are many uses for red zones and various types:

• Double red lines mean that vehicles may not stop at any time.

• A single red line has its exceptions and vehicles may stop – typically between an allotted time or day. For example; between 10 am – 4 pm and 7 pm – 7 am Monday to Friday.

If on your travels, you stumble upon a dashed red lined bay, this space may be reserved for loading only. For instance, these spaces may be found outside shops or stores. It might be worth a mention that if found not adhering to these rules, there are likely to be fines involved.

However, there are a few instances where stopping is allowed in a red zone:

• To prevent an accident occurring.

• When directed to do so by a police officer.

• To allow emergency vehicles to pass.

• If your vehicle has broken down.

While appearing on the roads in most cities around the country red zone line marking also can be found around our hospitals – making sure that people don’t block the essential routes for emergency vehicles.

To combat this exact problem, the NHS site in Nottingham required our help. Carrying out all works in thermoplastic to ensure longevity, the Riggotts crew completed a total of; 705 metres of line marking, 21 600 x 100 give way markings, 33 600 x 200 give way markings, four 1200mm letters and numbers, three metres squared of solid area and twelve speed hump triangles.

The Riggotts thermoplastic crew completed the job, on time and to budget with no disruption to the NHS site.
