While Coronavirus takes the country hostage, leaving only a limited number of companies still operating due to the lockdown mandate, Riggotts are as busy as ever carrying out critical, essential works at sites throughout the UK.
The Riggotts team was asked to provide urgent works at London’s NHS Nightingale hospital located inside the ExCeL Centre, and with time being a crucial factor in completing this project, they had to act fast.
With one day’s notice, one of Riggotts’ experienced crews were en-route, once they arrived they soon got to work. NHS Nightingale required a new helicopter landing pad capable of withstanding forces of the mighty chinook or any other helicopter that might be used at the facility.
Built in just nine days, NHS Nightingale London is the first of several critical care field hospitals built by HNS England as part of UK’s response to the COVID-19 epidemic.
The facility was built with the help of over 200 soldiers a day from the Royal Anglian Regiment and the Royal Gurkha Rifles, working alongside NHS staff and multiple contractors to get the job done.
In just nine days, the ExCeL Centre now can facilitate for around 4000 patients, with more than 80 wards, each with 42 fully equipped beds to manage the critical care some COVID-19 patients need. If the hospital reaches capacity, it will be one of the largest in the world.
