Riggotts Team Battles Hebridean Gales To Get Job Done

It has been said that Riggotts will go to any length to ensure that a job gets done and now we have the proof.   At the beginning of December, a Riggotts team set sail from the Scottish port of Oban bound for the Outer Hebridean island of South Uist where fresh road markings needed to be laid.   It wasn’t long before the boat started getting buffeted by the strong gales that had been forecast to hit Scotland.

With the weather rapidly deteriorating the ship’s captain had no option but to dock at the island of Barra and remain there until conditions improved.   The Riggotts team ended up being stranded on windswept Barra for two nights before finally continuing by boat to South Uist where they successfully marked the lines of the one road that runs the length of the island.   “It was like being on a rollercoaster for six hours,” says Andy Johnson, a member of the marooned Riggotts team, of the crossing from Oban. “When we got to Barra it was carnage. All the power was down so there was nothing working at all.

But at least we were on dry land so no one was complaining!   “When the weather eventually calmed down we were able to continue on to South Uist and start work. The whole trip took a little longer than planned but we got the job done. That’s the main thing.”


Riggotts Take To The Coronation Street Stage

Of all the roads in the United Kingdom, if not the world, few are better known than a fictional one found in Manchester – Coronation Street.

Recently, makers of the long-running iconic TV soap contacted Riggotts asking us to visit the studios and carry out some line marking work.

Alas, the marking in question wasn’t on the tarmacadam of Coronation Street itself. Instead, Riggotts’ employees Matt Hardy and Darren Pritchard spent two weeks painting lines on the car park adjacent to the set used by stars of the show together with other TV personalities working at the famous ITV studios in Manchester.

In an ideal world, Matt and Darren would have completed the job in half the time. Alas, the famous Manchester rain struck with a vengeance meaning the pair required longer than planned to finish the task.

Getting to paint the road markings on Coronation Street would have been something else, with your work being on the show to millions of people, but on this occasion that wasn’t part of our job,” says Matt.

In all honesty, we treat every job just the same, no matter where it is. Whether it’s Coronation Street or the car park next door, you apply the same level of professionalism to whatever you do. Every job gives you an immense sense of satisfaction once it’s completed. Maybe next time, having seen how thorough our work is, they will ask us back to paint


Riggotts Makes Its Mark On Asda’s £70m Distribution Centre

Riggotts were recently asked to complete the line markings on Asda’s distribution centre in Avonmouth, Bristol.

The 616,000 sq ft distribution centre, belonging to one of the UK’s biggest brands, wasn’t just a large-scale job. Costing £50,000, it had to be completed on time and to exact specifications, so there was certainly no room for trial and error!

Professional service is Riggotts’ speciality and it’s a good job. Once in operation, the base will service 123 stores nationwide and have the capability to pack about three million cases per week at busy times.   Riggotts worked alongside Mclaren, one of the UK’s most successful construction companies.

Nick Riggott, commercial director at Riggotts, said: “This was a big job for us which included line marking in a 485,000 sq ft warehouse for chilled and frozen food, alongside a 131,000 sq ft service centre. This was a complex job but the team pulled out all the stops to complete it quickly and efficiently with the attention to quality and detail that we’re famous for.”


Riggotts Test Out America’s DriveCam
